What is Cortisol?

Cortisol is a steroid hormone that is also known as hydrocortisone or glucocorticoid.  It’s released by the adrenal glands to combat stress and is a vital hormone in the endocrine system of the body.

It has been found that extended periods of severe stress can cause of the adrenal lands to take a timeout.  The symptoms that occur do not always become apparent at the same time but they can occur in combination with one another.
